Re: [T3] Crabby Carbs

Bone stock 1500 with sp heads.
I drove it to work today, 9mi, and it slowly got a lot better. Now its
missing occationally but the acceleration is normal, no longer falling on
its face when you put the pedal down.

I think the plugs may have gotten fouled... when I was restoring this car
with the stock jets It would start running crappy rather quickly if all I
did was move it around, unlike the FI 71 which just didn't care. I put the
2X Richer jets in and It ran poorer than the 1X, then I drove the car down
to the neighbor kids house several times without warming it up and that's
really when things went downhill.

What I don't understand though is how it can run so nicely at light throttle
and have a perfect idle if the plugs are fouled and only have problems if Im
stepping on it a bit... and it would start perfectly too, I always remember
fouled plugs making an engine hard or impossible to start.

Its still not running perfectly, Im going to try putting in a new set of
Russian Bosches I have, see if that ends the missing or I may have to tweak
the air jets a bit.

On a brighter note, I drove the 71 to Pennsylvania and back with the richer
mixture and the gas mileage wasn't any worse, it ran GREAT, hardly used any
oil and the marginal gas mileage (25.5 on the highway) may be due to the
fact that I was fully packed and VERY heavy both going and coming. On the
VIrgina trip Ill be much lighter, Ill have to see what it gets then.

136Kmi!!!

Keith

Is this still single port heads or have you upgraded to dual ports?
If it's single ports, might that make it easier to be too rich? Or
does that not have any bearing on the mixture?
